An Introduction

Introduction Post

Hello! I'm Lauren Hetherington a 2nd year student studying Creative Digital Media in TUD. I am 20 years old and I enjoy skateboarding and playing piano.

I have only been properly learning to skate since the start of September. I've fallen more times than I can remember in those 4 weeks but they're worth it and a sign of progression in my eyes. Not only have I learned to skate but I've made some good friends too. The skate park is now a second home to me and I am so thankful for the good people in that humble community.

I've played piano since I was 7, first starting on a keyboard then a few years later moved on to a piano. I have a love/hate relationship with piano after being practically forced to do lessons every week for over 10 years but I have a special place in my heart for certain songs. Every now and then I go to learn a new song but ultimately just learn the first few bars and then give up. I hate that I do that so with skateboarding I'm putting in 100% effort and trying again after I fail.

  1. Hi Lauren!! Loved this blog post! I gotta say I'm impressed you took up skateboarding! I bought a skateboard years ago but never had the confidence to actually do it, tried a penny board too and nope. It's really good that you've made friends there too! That'll definitely keep you going back, I believe in you! you're going to have to teach me whenever we're allowed see each other again lol. Lilly, Milly and Ted are the cutest!!! -Megan

  3. Hi Lauren, I like your determination to learn skating, I got myself a longboard over the summer and its super satisfying to cruise around, much easier than a standard skateboard. I love the images of your pets, Milly looks super cute and fluffy!

  5. Yo Lauren, skating's hard dude, I've been 'skateboarding' for like maybe 4/5 years now but I've never been committed or brave enough to actually learn any tricks I've pretty much only use my board for cruising/transport. I'm trying to actually learn recently but I'm still a little uncommitted to it honestly so it's really cool to hear you're puttin your all into it. There's also no skatepark's too close to me so that kinda sucks and you're lucky in that regard! Good luck with it tho! I've always wanted to learn the piano too but the starting it has always seemed super difficult but I've been messing around with a MIDI keyboard during the pandemic so that's been cool. Your dog's absolutely stunning btw.

  6. Hi Lauren, I enjoyed reading through your introduction, Its cool to see people are still a part of the skate culture which I have been a part of in the past! Your cat is very cool looking and your dogs seem very friendly and playful. Keep up the piano grind! It is a great skill to have. Hope you are finding second year good. Keep it up!

  8. Hi Lauren! Out of all the blogs I've read so far none of them compare to your Pets section, definitely a good thing to have. I used to skate everyday 8am to 10pm for years and I can definitely relate to how the skatepark feels like a second home. There's been so many friends I've made that come from different backgrounds and personal problems but none of that mattered because we were all just family and looked out for each other. It's been a while since I skated but trust me, the more you're not afraid to fall, the more progress you will make and you will fall A LOT. Good luck skating and definitely add a gif of your first kickflip to one of your blogs haha

  9. Hey Lauren, I haven't seen that many pet pictures out of all the blogs I've read so far haha!!! Skating is a lot of fun, when I was younger I did inline skating and skateboarding, but as I've gotten older I've gotten for into downhill longboarding instead of skateboarding because I find it more fun, it's definitely more scary!!! I think being able to play the piano is so cool, it's something I've started and stopped over and over again. Best of luck with skating and the rest of the semester.

  10. Hi Lauren! Skating is extremely difficult and i'm proud of you slowly getting there with your knees all battered and bruised hehe. Lilly is such an angel I swear, I remember you doing your whole photography assignment on her and tbh I'd probably do the exact same thing but I have an annoying bird instead. Anyway I can't wait to see you when we're finally let into college, I'm going to give you the biggest hug in the entire universe. - Anna Zurawska
